Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs

“There is a time for everything . . .” This month, we ponder the Good, the Bad and the fact that God provides both for us to enjoy as well as to learn and grow. Many people are seeking purpose and fulfillment in life. God has already told us “what it’s all about” in the Book of Ecclesiastes. And as an adjunct to the Wisdom Books, the Song of Songs tells us what love’s got to do with it. As we read through this Book, we can sense God’s enduring love for us. How blessed we are. What great reading for the month of July. Enjoy!

As a part of our journey each month, we highlight a teaching of Christ and a character quality to consider.

Do Not Commit Adultery

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery’; but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Matt. 5:27-28.

Self-Control

Associated with this command is the character quality of Self-Control. As we mature in Christ, we begin to see the world with a different perspective. We are “transformed” from a desire to please self to a desire to please God. Like Job, we can make a covenant with our eyes, to see what God wants us to see. Job 31:1. As we continue to feed on the Daily Bread of God’s Word, we are strengthened for life’s journey and given wisdom, discernment and courage to live a new life for Christ. How great God is! How blessed we are!
