Greetings in the Lord,
Welcome to the Bible Reading Adventure! This summer, we will be in the Book of Psalms, a collection of poetic writings, songs and expressions of deep emotions. There is much wisdom in these beautiful verses and principles that will give the reader confidence in God’s guidance and provisions. Thank you for your faithfulness and commitment to be in God’s Word. Have a wonderful summer!
Commands of Christ – “Beware of Covetousness”
As part of our adventure, each month we explore a teaching of Jesus. This month’s “command” is found in Luke 12:15. Jesus said, “Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” (KJV)
Character of Christ – Contentment (vs. Covetousness)
Associated with this command is the character quality of Contentment. Contentment is realizing that God has already provided everything I need for my present and future happiness. The secret of contentment is enjoying the presence of the Lord. “I delight to do thy will, O my God; yea, thy law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8 (Commands of Christ, Series Five, Institute in Basic Life Principles, 2003)
Reading the Bible with Purpose
(From the Maranatha workshop on “How to Read the Bible.”) Another reason for reading the Bible is because it builds us and helps us to grow. “And now I entrust you to God and to the message of his grace. This message is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” Acts 20:32 May this month’s reading bless and encourage you and build you up in supernatural ways! The reading schedule is attached. Share it with someone you love.
